Booknock is built so you can read without an account. This page explains, in plain words, what we keep and why.

What stays on your device

  • Uploaded books (PDFs) are stored only in your browser on your device. They are never sent to our servers, and nobody else can see them.
  • Highlights, notes, bookmarks, reading positions, your shelf and reader settings are saved on your device.
  • If you're signed out, your reading streak and stats are also kept only on your device.

What we collect when you create an account

  • Email address — to sign you in. Other readers never see it.
  • Display name, avatar and bio — shown to other members in clubs.
  • Reading progress — your page in club books, and your reading days, minutes, pages, finished books and yearly goal (only you can see these).
  • Posts — club discussions, replies, reactions, book suggestions, comments and votes, visible to members of that club.
  • Support messages and reports you send us, including an optional screenshot.

How we use it

  • To run the app: sign-in, clubs, spoiler locks, streaks and stats.
  • To answer support requests and keep the community safe.
  • We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.

Services we rely on

Book information comes from Open Library and free books from Project Gutenberg. When you browse, your device asks those sites for covers and book details.

Deleting your data

  • Go to Profile → Delete account. This removes your account, profile, posts and stats.
  • To remove things saved on your device, delete PDFs in Library or clear your browser's site data.
  • You can also email us and we'll help.
